Therapeutic Component
This will include both individual and group counseling to support each student’s mental health as well as offer guidance during the time of transition. One of the goals of counseling in the transition program is to offer comfort as well as accountability in order to best support the student’s growth. This includes working with the student on seeking outside resources (or expanding their outside network) which could include further educating students on resources available from DVRS and exploring independent living options etc. Another goal of counseling in transition is to intensively work with the students on utilizing their coping skills in the moment as they face the challenges transitioning to a new job or school may bring while also working with the student to further develop positive habits.
What we Offer:
Individual Counseling: Masters-level clinicians provide weekly therapy sessions to all students as well as case management. This support enables youngsters to engage in a challenging educational curriculum, search for outside services, housing needs, DDD services, and more.
Psychiatric Services: In response to a need identified by district staff and parents, Collier Transition Program has two consulting psychiatrists who can provide consultations, evaluations, and medication management for students enrolled within one of our schools or transitional program. There is no additional cost to the family or district for using one of our psychiatrists through our school. Families do have the option to use an outpatient psychiatrist of their choice instead of one of our psychiatrists. Our psychiatrists coordinate care with our school nurses and social workers to ensure continuity of care and follow-up.
Group Therapy: Individualized counseling is enhanced through specialized group therapies that discuss a wide variety of topics. Including but not limited to, grief, adoption, survivor, addiction, socialization, and empowerment.
Post-Graduate Counselor: A special counselor works with seniors both individually and through Senior Group (a series of workshops dealing with all phases of life after high school). Every effort is made for each child to have a solid educational or employment plan upon graduation.
